Hot Water

Hot Water

Providing hot water to different areas of an installation can be achieved by central or local heating systems. In central systems hot water is heated by a main heat source and then distributed to the areas where it is (kitchen, bathroom etc.). Solar power is mostly used as a heating source because of its many advantages, mostly saving fuels and money.

Solar water heater system uses solar energy in order to heat water and in some cases helps the heating system. It consists of:

  1. Solar collector: it consists of an absorbent plate containing pipes through which the heating fluid passes. Large hot water consumption requires a large area of collectors.
  2. DHW Tank or Boiler: the boiler stores the hot water heated by the solar panels, so that it can be used even when there is no sunshine. The boiler has a thermal insulation coating to maintain the water temperature and its capacity in liters of water depends on the application.
  3. Solar system circulator: It is the pump that transfers heat energy from the solar panels to the boiler.
  4. Solar controller: It is the electronic device that instructs the operator to operate, stop or change speeds according to the difference in water temperature between the collectors and the water in the boiler. At the same time, it can regulate the operation of the system as a whole, by controlling the backup heating source (eg oil boiler or heat pump) and the operation of the recirculation system and by providing indications.
  5. Heat pump: An air-to-water heat pump can be used as a backup heating source in the absence of sunshine. Also in cases of lack of space available for the installation of solar panels, the heat pump is a good solution for the production of hot water due to its very high efficiency compared to the oil boiler.
